What it is
The email designer is where you make the email a campaign sends, and reusable templates. It has no sidebar item: open it from a campaign draft's Email content step with Open email designer, or from Campaigns → Emails: Email designer (Start blank, New template or Continue editing), or Email templates (Use, Create template or Edit in designer). A campaign email saves to Drafts and goes on to recipients and scheduling; a template (header New template or Edit template) saves to Email templates and is never sent.
The designer never sends anything to customers. Sending happens only from an approved, scheduled campaign. The only email that leaves the designer is a test to yourself.
Only Owners can change emails. A Staff member can open a draft's email with View in designer, read-only.
How to use it
- In the draft's Email content step, select Open email designer.
- On "How do you want to start this email?", choose a tab: Your emails (Use a copy), Pre-built templates (Preview, then Use) or Start from scratch.
- From scratch, choose Drag & drop editor → Open the editor, HTML editor → Import or paste HTML, or Write a plain email → Start writing. Whatever you pick opens as a copy; the original never changes.
- Fill in Subject (up to 200 characters) and Preview text (up to 300).
- In Design mode, add Blocks and Sections from the left panel, or drag them onto the email. Select an item to change its settings.
- Replace every placeholder word and empty image slot in a pre-built template.
- Use Desktop and Mobile to check both views, and Undo and Redo as needed.
- Select Save (or Ctrl+S, Cmd+S on a Mac) often. When done, select Save & quit.
What the data means
Write, Design and HTML are the three ways to make an email. Write is one letter-style text. Design builds sections and blocks: Title, Text, Image, Video, Button, Logo, Social, HTML, Divider, Spacer, Vehicle and Navigation. HTML shows the source beside a safe preview.
The Required footer is always at the bottom: your business name and postal address from Settings and the unsubscribe link. It can't be removed; you can change its style and add an optional note.
The save chip shows Saved, Unsaved changes, Saving… or Newer version saved elsewhere. In campaign drafts and templates it says "Autosave is off here. Select Save to keep your changes."
Imported HTML is cleaned for safety: scripts, forms, frames and unsafe links are removed, and the Import report lists what changed under Fix before approval, Changed during cleanup and No changes. Files can be up to 128 KB. Imported HTML keeps its own styles, not the brand library.
Possible issues and fixes
My changes were lost
Symptom: You edited the email, closed the page, and the changes are gone.
Why: In campaign drafts and templates the designer doesn't save by itself. Only Save, Ctrl/Cmd+S and Save & quit keep your work.
Fix: Open the draft again in the same browser tab. If it offers "Restore unsaved changes", select Restore, then Save straight away. The safety copy lives only in that tab.
How to check: The chip reads Saved, and the changes are there in a fresh tab.
I can't switch a template between Write, Design and HTML
Symptom: The mode switch and Edit as HTML are unavailable.
Why: Once a template has content, its editing style is fixed. Turning a written or designed email into HTML can't be undone.
Fix: Create a new template in the style you want with Create template, or choose Convert a copy instead to keep the original.
How to check: The new template opens in the style you chose.
"This HTML is larger than 128 KB"
Symptom: The import is refused.
Why: Imported HTML can be up to 128 KB.
Fix: Remove unused code or embedded images, then try again.
How to check: Update preview shows the email and the Import report.
